TESTIMONIALS

Rachel Rueckert worked with me as an editor for the manuscript of CROSSINGS, a book that combined several different genres of writing: memoir, essay, university lectures, and letters to friends and family members. Rachel’s skillful and incisive review, both at the word and sentence level and in terms of overall structure, displayed acumen and experience across all of these styles of writing. Her sharp technical eye caught many errors and linguistic inconsistencies, and her ability to grasp what I was trying to say (but not currently saying clearly) helped me to focus and refine the writing. Her extensive feedback reflected professionalism and an enthusiastic, engaging mind that could grasp rough ideas and polish them
— Dr. Melissa Inouye, author of CROSSINGS
Rachel is a brilliant editor! Her ability to guide writers to structure a seamless narrative arc is a gift. Rachel encouraged me to go dive further down dark rabbit holes to unearth emotions locked deep within the recesses of my heart and mind. She helped me find the right words to best share my experiences. I look forward to working with her on my next memoir project.
— Bridget Verhaaren, author of STRONG, LIKE MY NAME
Rachel was an absolute professional from start to finish. She read my work in a timely manner and provided specific and insightful feedback in the form of in-text marginal notes that zeroed in on word choice, dialogue, character motivation, and other micro-level concerns as well as an email letter that considered global issues and her general response. Her comments struck the perfect balance of enthusiastic reader reactions and thoughtful, constructive suggestions for improvement; in addition to pinpointing problem spots with plotting, pacing, worldbuilding, etc., she helped me to craft a much stronger ending that brought satisfying closure not just to the book but to the series as a whole. I feel so lucky to have worked with her and can’t recommend her highly enough!

Rachel Rueckert has excellent editorial instincts, with a sharp eye for inconsistencies and false notes. You will NOT regret entrusting your beloved manuscript to her; Rachel brings her full mind and heart to the task of editing. She will not only sharpen your copy; she’ll care about it with you, as evidenced by prodigious notes full of insight and curiosity. She clearly she takes the time to read carefully and fully engage, and she balances affirmations with probing questions about content and style. Rachel was the first and best reader of my nonfiction manuscript last year. I found her notes incredibly valuable, and the manuscript was so much the better for her suggested cuts, edits, and clarifications. Rachel’s edits and encouragement gave me the confidence to move forward with querying, and within the year I had signed on with a great agent. I’ll never query another manuscript again without first passing it by Rachel’s editorial eye.
— Kim Green, author of RED SKY, BLACK DEATH and SLOW NOODLES
As a novice write working on my first book, I was fortunate to have Rachel as my editor. As I had never had an editor, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. But what I didn’t expect (and didn’t know that I needed) was Rachel’s positive attitude. Throughout the text, she gave me words of encouragement which helped motivate me to polish what I had written. Her cheering comments made me want to do an even better job on my book.
— Sam Stewart, author of REFINER'S FIRE
Whenever I have written a new chapter or essay, I send my work to Rachel for feedback before exposing it to a broader audience. Rachel has the insight, sensitivity, and attention to detail that help me understand what is working and not working in the piece as it stands and how to build on what I’ve written to make a stronger next draft. I eagerly wait for her feedback so that I can see my work anew through her clear, thoughtful eyes and get started on revisions.
